WVU Medicine

Produced medical illustrations, diagrams, and visual assets to support online education and patient materials during COVID-19, translating complex clinical information into clear, accessible graphics.

Development

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when in-person medical training was suspended, I collaborated with the surgical education team at West Virginia University Medicine to develop a series of instructional illustrations supporting virtual learning.

The illustrations focused on visualizing key surgical procedures, including an appendectomy, through both surgical and imaging viewpoints. Each drawing detailed the anatomical presentation of affected organs and the areas of focus required during the operation.

Working closely with attending surgeons, I used real-life reference imagery and surgical footage alongside existing medical illustrations to ensure clinical accuracy. Each image was designed to clearly communicate procedural steps and spatial relationships, helping students bridge the gap between theoretical and hands-on learning in a remote environment.
